"Smallbany," as most residents will know, is a nickname (sometime affectionate, sometimes negative) for Albany, because of its relatively small population and neighborhood vibe. After a while you stop being surprised when you find out that your new boyfriend went to high school with your cousin, or something along those lines. Seeing the same faces in the same bars is a treat, though not without its complications (particularly when there are people you're trying to avoid). The fact that this city also happens to be a quirky one makes it all the more interesting.
"Smallbany" the cartoon was created by Dana Owens, a cartoonist and satirist who wants to capture that vibe in his art. He lampoons the political, the recreational and the stark reality of what makes this city tick cleverly and with humor. What's even more interesting; he would like the Smallbany readers and Albany residents to submit ideas for stories. As stated on his Craigslist post, "if you have a funny story, joke, or observation about SMALLBANY please email it to me and I will illustrate it..."
